Ascension of Jesus

Despotic holiday, which refers to Christ's ascension into the heavens and is considered in church tradition as the completion of Christ's mission on Earth. It is celebrated by the Church on the 40th day after the Resurrection. On this day they celebrate those who bear the name Analipsi.

The church event of the Ascension is described by the evangelists Mark, Luke and John, in the Acts of the Apostles, in letters of the Apostle Paul and the Apostle Peter.

According to the New Testament descriptions above, the Ascension took place on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem in front of Christ's disciples, who watched in awe as the Teacher was removed. The patristic tradition particularly emphasizes the supernatural character of the Lord's Ascension, which was included in the doctrinal teaching of the Church with the characteristic reference to the Creed ("and having ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father and coming again after glory... "). Both in the Acts of the Apostles and in the Creed ("I believe") the relationship of the Ascension with the Second Coming is proclaimed.

The Ascension of Christ was celebrated together with Pentecost during the first centuries. From the 4th century, however, the progressive distinction and its independent celebration began.
