Saint Anastasius the Persian

He lived in the 7th century AD. in the years of the Persian king Chosroes and the emperor Kon/polis Heraklion. He was born in the province of Rasnuni in Persia, he was the son of the magician Bav and his name was Magundat. He had a remarkable education and had a great interest in philosophy and religion. When Chosroes conquered Jerusalem in 614, and sent the Holy Cross to Persia, the educated Persians became very interested in the person of Christ and his religion. One of them was Magundat who decided to embrace the Christian religion. That is why he went to Jerusalem, where he was baptized, and became a monk in the monastery of Abba Iustinos with the name Anastasius

He then visited Caesarea, where he considered it his duty to speak to the Persian garrison there about Christ. The commander Marzavanas was informed that he is a Christian and, failing to convince him, ordered his torture. After many tortures, the Saint received the crown of martyrdom with beheading. His martyrdom took place in 628 AD. with 70 other Christian Martyrs.

Orthodox Church celebrates his memory on January 22
