Saint Elizabeth Mother of Prodromos

Zacharias, father of John the Baptist, lived during the time of Herod, king of Judea. In the opinion of Chrysostom, as well as other Fathers of the Church, Zacharias was not a simple Priest, but a high priest who entered the holy of holies. He had a wife Elizabeth and they had no child.
So one day, at the time of burning incense in the altar, he saw an angel of the Lord who announced to him that he would have a son and he would be named John. Zacharias squealed with joy, but was in disbelief. His wife was barren and old, how could what he was hearing happen? Then the angel told him that he would remain deaf and dumb until God's will was done.

Indeed, Elizabeth conceived and gave birth to a son. When they wanted to name the child, Zacharias wrote the name John on a sign. Immediately his tongue was untied and all together glorified God.
