Orthodox Icon Virgin Mary Gorgoepikoos

The Orthodox Icon of Virgin Mary Gorgoepikoos is lovingly crafted in natural poplar wood. Its technique is lithography, while the wood is carved with a wavy outline that gives a modern touch to the icon.

Virgin Mary Gorgoepikoos

One of the many names we give to the Virgin Mary is Gorgoepikoos and her miraculous icon of the same name has been in the Holy Monastery of Dochiari on Mount Athos since 1646. There, as stated in the history of the monastery, "she shines like a bright moon, like an excellent ruler and a wise steward of the governs", protecting from all insult and influence the holy fathers practicing it, but also those who turn to her with faith, asking for her help. Since then this Holy icon is called Gorgoepikoos (Gorgoypikoos).

And truly her grace works many miracles not only on Mount Athos, but also outside it, in cities and villages, throughout Greece, but also in other places, where she is revered and invoked. Our Lady Gorgoepikoos is a miracle worker, heals diseases, gives children to childless couples, reveals lost objects, protects seafarers, redeems captives, raises the paralyzed, gives light to the blind, heals from deadly diseases, banishes locusts from fields and many other miracles that are found written in the Monastery of Dochiari, as miraculous interventions of Panagia Gorgoepikou.
