Saint Simeon

Simeon lived in Jerusalem. He was righteous, pious and enlightened by the Holy Spirit, who had revealed to him that he would not die before seeing Christ. This cheerful information cheered him up to his old age. Finally, exactly forty days after the birth of Jesus, the Spirit informed him that he should go to the Sanctuary. So he prepared himself with youthful vigor, went thither, and stood at the door, full of pleasure and exultation.In the midst of this expectation, Joseph and the Virgin, who was holding Jesus, appeared to be coming. Simeon, informed by the Spirit that this infant is Christ, runs and takes Jesus in his arms. He holds him reverently and, after observing the infant well and receiving all the hilarity of his divine form, he raised his eyes and said, thanking God: "Now you dismiss your servant, Despot, according to your word in peace..." . He was called Simeon the Theodochos, because he held Jesus in his arms at Hypapanti.
