Saint Euphemia the Great Martyr

She lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian (284 – 305 AD) in Chalcedon. Psilofron and Theodoriani's parents were noble and God-fearing people. The same with their daughter Euphimia, who was distinguished for her wonderful beauty and for her rare spiritual gifts. One day the proconsul of Asia Minor Priscus issued an order obliging all the inhabitants of Chalcedon to appear at the festival of the god Ares and to sacrifice in his honor.Euphemia along with other Christians did not appear, were arrested and imprisoned. During her captivity, the enemies of Christ tried in every way to convince the saint to deny her faith and worship idols. When they realized that Euphemia was not going to change her faith with words, they tortured her horribly. But with divine grace, the saint suffered nothing from the torture. Finally, the executioners threw her to wild beasts and Euphimia was killed by a bear.
