Virgin Mary of Passion
The name comes from the Apodeipnos hymn "Aspile, Amolynte, Achrande..." composed by the monk Pavlos of the Evergetidos monastery. Amolyntos in Orthodox iconography is also called Our Lady of the Passion, because Christ contemplates the two archangels depicted on either side of the Virgin and holding the symbols of passion in their hands. The Cross, the Wreath, the Lance and the Sponge
In this image, the Virgin Mary holds Christ on the right with her left hand under his bare and bent knees and her right hand with her long and slender fingers protects his shoulder. Christ nestles in His mother's arms, with His face turned to the archangel Gabriel, who is here depicted very close to Him, displaying the main symbols of the Passion: the great Cross of His future sacrifice and the wreath of his reproach.
Orthodox Church celebrates her memory on August 15
